Training
Diligent personnel have provided over a decade of consulting services to various customers and have been involved in multiple training research, development, and evaluation projects. These include:
Innovations in Education and Training
- Fundamental Skills Training (FST) project. The Fundamental Skills Training (FST) project, a 10-year effort, addressed literacy skills in the areas of mathematics, writing, and science (AFRL Technical Report AFRL-HE-AZ-TR-2003-0041).
- The research and development of an Internet-Based, Intelligent Writing Process Tutor. Diligent personnel served as the lead on the development of an Internet-based writing process tutor which was developed from a LAN-based version of the tutor.
- National Science Foundation Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Grant. Diligent personnel were part of a team that demonstrated the feasibility of creating and using intelligent learning objects in an SBIR Phase I effort with the National Science Foundation.
- AFRL Phase I SBIR for simulation-based medical training. The goal of the research was to design and develop a generative, knowledge-based instructional development and delivery system for simulation-based training.
- San Antonio Math Science and Engineering Coalition (SAMSEC). Diligent personnel are actively contributing to SAMSEC project.
Department of Labor
- The Job Corps "IT Works" project. Diligent personnel consulted to the Department of Labor, National Office of Job Corps on the Information Technology Pilot Project and developed training software for the project
- The Job Corps TABE 9/10 Student Testing System (STS). Diligent personnel had an active role multi-year Job Corps project which transitioned the Job Corps system from the Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Forms 7/8 to TABE Forms 9/10 and from a paper-based to a computer-based testing system.
- The Job Corps Learning Management System Project. As part of an effort to transition to a standards-based education and training system, the National Office of the Job Corps (NOJC) is in the process of selecting and implementation an enterprise-wide learning management system (LMS).
High School Evaluation Projects
- Tri-County Technology Integration Project Target Grant. Diligent personnel conducted the evaluation of the math activities for the Tri-County Technology Integration Project (TCTIP) Target Grant.
- Beeville Community Learning Center (BCLC) Grant. Diligent personnel conducted a twofold evaluation of a Texas 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant awarded to the Beeville Independent School District and the St Mary's Charter School (also in Beeville) by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
Software Development Supporting Education and Training
- Web-Based Information Tracking System (WBITS) and the Reserve Component Periodic Health Assessment (RCPHA). Diligent provided project management and information technology (IT) services for the Air Force Reserve Command's WBITS and the RCPHA system as a subcontractor to MTC Technologies, Inc.
- National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) is a national application processing and tracking system to allow all K-12 teachers in the United States and in the overseas Military community to apply to become a certified teacher in any discipline and monitor the progress of their application. Diligent provides a complete solution, including: requirements analysis, database design and development, application design and development, creating and directing test activities, system and database architecture design and implementation, application training for customers, configuration management and maintenance of application, and on-going system enhancements and maintenance.
Service to the Education and Training Community
In addition to the above education and training projects, Diligent personnel are actively involved in the San Antonio education and training community. We have served on a variety of committees including:
- Committee member of Technology in Education and Training Conference (TETC) (2003 - 2006)
- Co-Chair of the San Antonio Virtual Environments in Education and Training (SAVE ET) Conference (2008 - 2010)
- San Antonio Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development (SA-ASTD) board member including the president (2005-2006)
- Annual SA- ASTD professional development events
Looking to the Future
Diligent understands that the conversion of existing instructor-led training to computer-based training is a pervasive trend in the education and training community. Diligent is poised to assist organizations in that transition. Even though training conversion is the current focus of many organizations, Diligent has not lost sight of the need for innovation and forward thinking in education and training. As a result, Diligent is actively researching and developing experience and capabilities in the following:
- Mobile training
- Virtual worlds
- Simulation-based training
