Air Force Medical Readiness Tracking
Overview
The United States (U.S.) Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, the Air Force Academy and various other Air Force organizations use WBITS for tracking and predicting training requirements for over 25,000 Air Force Medical Personnel, in total comprising over 2100 distinct units. In addition, the Air Force Reserves use WBITS to track requirements and completion of ancillary training directed from all levels from the headquarters down to the individual unit. The U.S. Air Force Reserves uses RCPHA to maintain over 90,000 medical records and to monitor the progress of individuals’ annual health examination. The software has modules that provide workflow management, online questionnaires, scheduling of clinical work and exams, and multiple levels of reporting. In addition to its primary purpose of tracking annual medical and dental exams, RCPHA was expanded to track pre and post deployment medical surveys, occupational health exposures and labs for military and civilian personnel, line of duty determinations, and all aspects of flying readiness.
Technical SolutionTo manage the schedule and budget risks during the development of these web-based systems Diligent used the agile Dynamic System Development Method (DSDM). This process resulted in our being able to maximize the Air Force’s return on investment for the time and budget allotted. Based upon Rapid Application Development (RAD), we used the DSDM ‘time-blocking’ and tightly coupled continuous user involvement features to accomplish iterative development and incremental product.
We performed software engineering services for WBITS using an Oracle database as the backend and Oracle iAS as the web application server. For the RCHPA system we also use an Oracle database and Oracle iAS web Server. Diligent supported development of this application using a combination of Java servlets, javascript, HTML, and Adobe postscript.
Diligent ImpactDiligent provides Project Management and Information Technology (IT) services for the Air Force Reserve Command’s Web-Based Information Tracking System (WBITS) and the Reserve Component Periodic Health Assessment (RCPHA) system.
Diligent’s full scale of IT services includes requirements analysis, system architecture design, system development and production, database design and development support, and application design and development.
