Air Force Recruiting Service (AFRS)
Overview
The Air Force has chosen to divide AFRS Data Warehouse implementation into multiple development iterations. Therefore, work is still ongoing in the development arena even as the system is becoming an integral part of Recruiting Service Analyses.
Technical SolutionCurrently, the Diligent Consultant is a full participant in the implementation and administration of the AFRS Data Warehouse. Having successfully performed initial taskings, the Diligent Consultant has now joined the AFRS Database Administration team. His day-to-day duties include:
- Advising the End User on warehouse contents and proper usage
- Expanding the system by building new databases and servers
- Continuing System, Database and Application design and development
- Continuing work with the Data Modeler on new and updated schema designs
- Configuration management and maintenance of the Data Warehouse database and application
- Development of the Oracle Discoverer application servers and metadata repository
- Administration of the Oracle Database, Oracle Designer, and Oracle Discoverer tools
- Monitoring the Data Warehouse for performance and accuracy
- Troubleshooting problems with Oracle software and database operations
- Installing Oracle software to include both database and application tools
- Upgrading Oracle software by applying database and application software patches
Diligent was instrumental in the design and development of the AFRS Data Warehouse. At the start of this project, Diligent played a leading role in developing AFRS data warehouse requirements, database design, application design, system design, and development process controls.
After completion of the design phase, the Diligent Consultant shifted his efforts to guiding Air Force Database Administrators on implementation details. In this capacity, he guided Air Force personnel to the successful completion of initial operating capabilities.
